Dear Readers,

GFTBThe French bestselling author Alain Minc got to the heart of it: "Globalization is to our economy what gravity is to physics. You cannot be in favor of or against the laws of gravity - you have to live with them". However, there is an important difference to physics: It's up to us how we frame globalization and its effects on the economic development of our company and our everyday work.

An important aspect of this is international project work. What we experience on a minor scale - within our company or in our country - also applies to a global scale: A uniform and company-wide understanding of Project Management enables more efficient processes and a reduction of costs. The obstacles for successful project work in international projects are, however, much greater and more complex than those in national projects.

Tiba focused on internationalization at an early stage and has been gaining experience with the development and implementation of international Project Management concepts in globally active companies since 1998. We act locally on-site where our clients need our support: In Germany, the USA, Spain and 45 other countries. Our consultants and trainers develop and implement globally uniform Project Management concepts. These are always adapted to suit the needs of the respective locations or regions and their different cultures during the rollout. Thus, the companies we are supporting benefit from our network of local consultants and trainers, who are equally familiar with the respective country and its peculiarities as they are with the cultural characteristics. Another advantage: Tiba is multilingual; German and English are company standard. Furthermore, during the past two years we had assignments in a total of 16 languages. We are in a position to supply any service required by our clients with regard to Project Management - regardless of industry, size of the company, language or location. Worldwide.

To be precise, it was the respect of cultural characteristics that has helped our clients so successfully over the past few years. After all, no one - neither a small nor an international project team - can work against their own nature on a long-term basis. Knowing this, and adapting the activities to suit the local needs while enabling international teamwork and collaboration to function towards achieving the goals set, is our strength.

How we accomplish this and how you can benefit from it is portrayed in our first special edition of the Tiba Magazine in English. Project Management experts report on up-to-date strategies and tools in Project Management, on successfully managed challenges and new, implemented solution approaches. The Tiba Magazine is an information medium addressing company and project management, project leaders and project team members. It is our aim to give you valuable suggestions for Project Management within your company and to create a platform for an exchange of experience.

I hope you have as much pleasure reading this magazine as we had in the projects we present you on the following pages.

In this spirit I wish you inspiring moments of reading and look forward to receiving your feedback on the topics addressed.

Keep us in mind,

Till H. Balser

The benefit of Project Management - can it be quantified?

Our working world is no longer conceivable without Project Management - experts are in agreement about this. The amazing thing is that over the past 30 years of Project Management history, no one has even investigated what benefits PM really brings to companies or where optimization of PM begins. Up to now, there are no figures or studies about either question. But for process optimization, things are different: here, for example, the LeanOffice 2010 study by Fraunhofer IPA (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart, Germany) assumes a potential improvement of 27 per cent in company administrative processes. » Continue reading

Project Management multinational - from A as in Australia to V as in Venezuela

Project Management international - from A as in Australia to V as in Venezuela Project Management is everything but a national issue. On the contrary: companies which would like to be successful on an global basis always fall back on the international know-how of their employees in order to continue to develop their products beyond national borders. A uniform understanding of Project Management is required here in order to avoid any misunderstandings. This can be achieved by working together with an experienced training and consulting company. » Continue reading

Academy management of international Project Management-curricula

The initial euphoria of eLearning as the latest "universal weapon" in training and further training has, in recent years, given way to a certain pragmatic disillusionment. Both the practical experience with and research into eLearning has shown that eLearning on its own all too often does not produce the desired learning effect. Amongst other things, this is because of the lack of social interaction, the high level of self-discipline required of the learner and not least, because of the opportunity, which is often not available, to put into practice and implement with others what has been learned. The purpose of further training, particularly in companies, is not ultimately to increase the level of knowledge of the employees.

Single project and project portfolio management as the foundation for business success

Single project and project portfolio management as the foundation for business successOver the last few years, many companies have put time and money into developing single project management. The positive result of this is that individual projects are now much better able to achieve their targets in terms of quality, deadlines and budget compliance than in the past. However, certain dissatisfaction remains because in many cases the potential improvements regarding project management have not yet been fully exhausted. What can be done further to optimize project management and what part should project portfolio management play in this?
